ABOUT ME

Steph Koyfman is the astrologer formerly known as The Daily Hunch. She is an ardent student of archetypes and is a big fan of using language to poke at the layer of metaphor that encapsulates our experiences.

“Cazimi” is a (Latin, by way of Arabic) astrological term that refers to a planet being “in the heart of” the Sun. During a cazimi, we often experience a moment of searing clarity, naked truth, and empowered perception. This is the sort of experience she loves to incite through her work.

My Background

I am certified by the International Society of Astrological Research and am a member of the Association For Young Astrologers.

My work has appeared in Chani App, and I currently write monthly horoscopes for Condé Nast Traveler and produce a monthly YouTube forecast with Dan Waites and SJ Anderson on World Astrology Report.

My journey (or fixation) with astrology began in 2006 when I read a description of the second decan of Cancer that was really weirdly specific to my experience. Like any other good dork, I spent the next few years reading and Googling and learning about my birth chart, as well as developing a deeply personal understanding of the astrological archetypes.

Eventually, I started studying more formally with a teacher under Annabel Gat. Over the years, I’ve also learned a lot from my elders and brilliant peers, of which there are too many to name, but Rick Levine and Chris Brennan are probably two of my other most formative influences. I’ve also taken courses from Austin Coppock on the 36 decans, Kelly Surtees on progressions, and Thea Wirsching on the progressed lunar cycle that inform my approach. Most recently, I’ve been learning from Dr. Ali Olomi’s scholarship on the medieval Islamic astrological tradition, and incorporating new techniques.

I started seeing clients in 2016, which is the same year I started a social media presence for The Daily Hunch, something I originally intended to be a personalized horoscope/transit report subscription service. This gradually evolved into me emerging from behind the curtain as a person who does astrology, not just a hobbyist with a website or an account. The accumulated impact of this transition led me to rebrand as Lady Cazimi in 2022.

House System & Techniques

I use a blend of modern and traditional techniques to introduce you to your potential, help you make friends with your hangups, clarify what's going on in your life, and help you plan and envision your next steps.

I use the whole sign house system, traditional planetary rulerships, and the essential dignity scheme that made up a great deal of the backbone of Hellenistic astrology. I also use the modern outer planets and psychologized approach to planetary symbolism that flourished over the last century.

I usually use multiple techniques in the space of one session, which can include annual and monthly profections, secondary progressions, zodiacal releasing, transits, solar return charts, and monthly revolutions.

My Philosophy

The cool thing about the sky poetry we refer to as astrology is that it creates bridges between the arcane math in the sky and the playful, visceral, and archetypally resonant melodramas it describes.

My desire is to make this ancient language and way of knowing more legible to people, to make people more legible to themselves, and to help people form new connections and associations — a new relationship to their stuff — as an antidote to feeling alienated from their experience.

Dreaming is an important part of emotional processing and memory consolidation because it helps your brain form new relationships between memories that don’t have an obvious connection. This is sort of like what I think astrology helps us do. It’s a filter we can apply to ourselves and our lives, or a language we can translate our experiences into, that grounds us in an understanding of cyclical time.

Knowing astrology is a little like knowing the code that brings your user experience to life. You can’t always perceive exactly how it’s going to look from the back end, but you can anticipate the outlines and the shapes, and that’s often all you need to move into the future with intention and a sense of creative agency around how you navigate all that potential.

I don’t consider it my role to tell you what to do or tell you that something definitely will or won’t happen, because there’s not enough humility or empowerment in that. I hope that instead, you get more mileage out of having a little more information to work with, a little more appreciation for your process, and a few new moves you can use to dance artfully with time.
